SIP calculator

Work out what a monthly SIP could add up to at a yearly return you assume. It is arithmetic, not a forecast: mutual fund returns are not fixed and can be negative.

Your figures

Instalments go in on the 1st of each month and compound monthly at the yearly rate ÷ 12.

Value after 10 years

Enter an assumed return from 2% to 13% a year to see the illustration.

Mutual Fund investments are subject to market risks, read all scheme related documents carefully.

Past performance may or may not be sustained in future and is not a guarantee of any future returns.

Available once an assumed return is entered.

How it is worked out

Value = P × ((1 + i)ⁿ − 1) ÷ i × (1 + i)

P is the monthly instalment, i the yearly return ÷ 12, and n the number of months. With a 0% return the value is P × n.

Left out: capital gains tax, exit loads, stamp duty and changes in the scheme’s costs.

Questions

01

Is this the value my SIP will reach?

No one can know that. The result is arithmetic at the return you enter. Mutual fund returns are not fixed; they can be higher or lower than you assume, and they can be negative.

02

Why does the result change so much with the return I enter?

Each instalment compounds for a different number of months, so a small change in the yearly return moves the total a lot over long periods. Enter a few rates from 2% to 13% to see how far it moves.

03

Are tax and costs included?

No. Capital gains tax, exit loads and stamp duty are left out. Enter a return after the scheme’s costs if you want to allow for them.
